TeKu Tavern has agreed to host us once again for an all-ages social gathering! Not only are The Urbanist’s social gatherings a great place to connect and network with like-minded people (you should come to our monthly socials), but this time we will be joined by House Our Neighbors to talk briefly about the Proposition 1A, which will fund social housing in Seattle. Those joining our February 3 meetup will learn how to get involved in the final days of the campaign.

Prop 1A has been endorsed by The Urbanist Elections Committee, and would create a dedicated funding stream for mixed-income social housing in Seattle by taxing companies that provide total annual individual employee compensation over $1 million. This progressive revenue source builds on the success of Initiative 135, which set up the Seattle Social Housing Developer in the first place. Ballots are set to land in mailboxes soon for the February 11 special election.

A cross section shows the guts of the building with captions noting the unit mix, which included 15 two- or three-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom townhomes, and 16 co-living one-bedroom apartments.
A social housing project envisioned on Northgate Way would create a central courtyard greenspace for socializing. (Neiman Taber Architects)

Whether you’re new to urbanism or a long-time supporter of the Urbanist, all are welcome to have an evening of fun conversation and learn about Prop 1A!
